Scott Berkun wrote a masterpiece about improving existing web UI, basing on del.icio.us example. I think there isn’t much more to add. Maybe an advice – if you design or develop web user interface, take those ideas deep into your heart.
And make “the Berkun Test” on your UI once you have it developed in alpha version.
