Between team meeting and urgent call I went for a while to our marketing department to share with them idea of a gadget for people in our firm. There was a director from our sibling company in the room at the moment. He was surprised: “Do you really have time for such things?”
Yes I do. Because it’s important. People care about those kind of things. They like to see that someone actually cares. And of course they love free stuff. A simple T-shirt or a mug can change people’s attitude for a bit. That’s a single step, but on the end of the road there’s a big difference not only in a way employees look at their employer but also in their performance and commitment.
That’s why I do have time for such things. My focus is always on people. Yes, I remember about budgets, projects, customers, all those stuff I’m responsible for, but I won’t do that alone. I’m not a manager of headcount. I’m a manager of Gosia, Lukasz or Grzes. If they care about getting some gadgets I do too.
