Imagine you’re on the meeting. One of attendees in the room. Someone has prepared some presentation or speech and is going through his points.
Then someone starts hitting his laptop keyboard hard since he writes angry answer to some email.
Another girl answers a mobile phone and starts silent conversation which is perfectly heard from the other end of the room.
Two developers in the back row decide to discuss bug submitted an hour ago.
A manager doesn’t care about what’s happening in the room and reads emails all the time.
What the heck? If you don’t care to give attention to a presenter don’t bother to come. If you have something darn urgent finish it before entering the room. If you want to chat go out. Pay deference to work the presenter put into the presentation or speech. And by all means don’t hamper. You’re not the only person in the room, are you?
I don’t play the saint. It happens from time to time I commit above sins, although I try hard not to be notorious with that. Simply because I hate when someone does it. I hate when I try to follow the presentation and someone distract me with their emails and calls. I imagine how I’d feel If I was in the presenter shoes.
The way people act during the meetings, training sessions etc shows what kind of meeting culture your company has and if anyone does anything to improve that culture a bit.
How it looks like in your organization?
